M 10035Dear Fellow Elks,

The Oregon State Elks provide Oregons children with the facilities for the best pediatric eye care in the region, possibly the nation. Thanks to your continued generosity, we now provide over 18,000 patient visits per year at the Elks Childrens Eye Clinic. With Elks Support, the vision screening program has screened over 5,000 preschool children this year. Elks from every district of the state volunteered to assist with community health fairs and Head Start screenings. Your state project is truly one to be proud of. The daily miracles that occur at the Elks Childrens Eye Clinic would not be possible without thousands of donors and volunteers who give time, money, talent and love. I hope you all join me and your fellow Elks in supporting our major project. While we won't be sending out individual thank you letters, please accept in advance our sincere thanks and appreciation of your thoughtful gift. If you would like to donate, please click the yellow Donate button below.

Warmest wishes for a happy holiday season,
Dan Lowe President,

 PoppySchool Poppytable PoppyDoctor

Dear Oregon Elks,
When my daughter Poppy was diagnosed with congenital cataracts in both eyes at two years old, I didn't know what to do. First, I was angry. I was angry because it runs in my husband's family and we had been so diligent about making sure her pediatrician checked for it on a regular basis - we had been assured with certainty that it wouldn't be an issue for our sweet girl. Then, I cried. I cried because she was about to have to go through so much to fix it at such a young age. I was scared because I didn't know how this would limit her future or what obstacles it would create. After being turned down by several in-area pediatric ophthalmologists, Dr. Loh was able to fit Poppy into her schedule the day she was diagnosed. We rushed up to Portland from Eugene, where Dr. Loh confirmed that it was cataracts and that we would need to act fast before they developed even more. They were able to get Poppy in the next day for surgery on her left eye, and then scheduled her second surgery two weeks out. There are not enough words to express how grateful we are for Dr. Loh. She was such a calming presence for both my husband and I, as we had no time to process any of what was happening. She was confident, reassuring and most of all, she was kind and comforting to our daughter. She performed the surgeries beautifully, and we didn't think it was possible, but Poppy is even more adorable with her purple glasses. Poppy gets excited to see Dr. Loh every time we go in for a check up,  and as a mother, the bond that they have built is incredible and more than I could ever ask for out of any doctor. Dr. Loh and the Elks Children's Eye Clinic were there for us when we needed them the most.  They played such a monumental role in Poppy's life and in countless other lives, and we don't know where we'd be without them.
Many thanks,
Emily Wittenberg
